Activities as a Training Group
During 2007 and the first half of 2008, the following health workers were trained:
Middle level health workers: 15 such from Narmada Bachao Aandolan, Chhota Nagpur Adivasi seva samiti, Chhattisgarh Mukti Morcha and Dalit Mahila Sangathan were trained . Training was initiated in February 2007 and concluded in December 2007, in four phases. The health workers will be able to handle a wide range of acute and chronic illnesses, and stablise sick patients before referring them to hospital. They will be based in the village, which is a big advantage. A manual for the health workers, as well as compilation of standard treatment guidelines and a drug formulary are under preparation.
24 village health workers from Kassar Trust, District Chamoli and Aarohi, District Almora, Uttaranchal were trained in primary health care in January 2007
12 village health workers from Raigarh Ambikapur Health Association were trained in laboratory skills and in how to run a village based laboratory in this period April- May 2007
2 laboratory health workers from Shaheed Hospital, Dalli Rajhara, District Durg, Chhattisgarh were trained in April 2007.
Training of 200 paramedics of Gonoshasthya Kendra, Bangladesh in use of appropriate Technology and low cost care: April 2007
65 nurses from RAHA were trained in management of childhood illnesses, antenatal care, and rational therapy in November 2007 and July 2008. Twenty nurses were then provided intensive training for a week at Ganiyari.
250 small and medium farmers were trained in importance of food availability for good health as part of our campaign to increase food production through popularising the Madagascar technique of paddy cultivation.
Five health workers from Adivasi Vikas Sangathan, Hoshangabad were trained in primary health carein Oct 2007.
13 health professionals (Lab technicians, field coordinators and three doctors) from Bongaigaon and Dibrugarh, Assam were trained in 'Running a low cost rural health service' in Dec 2007.

Activities as a Resource Group
JSS serves as a resource group, providing both training and policy and practice interventions at government and non-government levels.
At the Chhattisgarh state level, we are members of the State Health Resource centre, the State Institute of Health and family welfare and the implementation group for effecting health sector reforms in the state. JSS is also a part of the Jan Swasthya Abhiyan and the People's Rural Health watch and the Community Monitoring group for the NRHM.
Presentations on policy interventions have been made in issues of drug pricing , use of rational issues have been made to parliamentarians group, special parliamentary committees, All India Drug Action Network, consumers groups, medical representatives' federations, medical colleges faculty and students at AIIMS, new delhi, GMC, Nagpur and CMC Vellore
Presentations have been made on policy issues to various professional bodies such as Indian Cardiac Society, ICMR and the Indian Academy of Pediatrics.
The Planning Commission, Government of India refers to JSS as a special resource group for making Health care affordable at low cost in its XI plan report.
The Department of Science and Technology, New Delhi considers JSS as a resource group for Appropriate Technology in health care
