Operating Theatre
Surgical problems in rural areas often go unattended for long periods of time because of the expense of treatment involved. JSS, with its team of surgeons, has been providing a wide range of surgical services, from general to specialized cancer surgery, at an affordable cost to the rural and tribal population of Bilaspur district.
The JSS campus contains an operation theatre complex which includes 3 major operation theatres and a labour room. This complex has been open since June 2001, and has provided high-quality surgical services to more than 10,000 patients.
It also acts as a referral service for surgical problems of children, as JSS has one of the only three pediatric surgeons available in the entire state of Chhattisgarh.
Surgeries have been performed for the following conditions:
Abdominal: Urinary stones, gastro-intestinal perforation, gallstones, appendicitis, hernia, hydrocoele, haemorrhoids, fistula-in-ano, intestinal obstruction, cancer of the colon and rectum, hydatid cyst.
Gynaecological and Obstetric: Cancer of the uterus, uterine cervix and breast, ovarian cyst, dysfunctional uterine bleeding, cystocoele, rectocoele, vesico-vaginal fistula, caesarean section
Chest and ENT: Empyema thoracis, thyroid adenoma, mixed parotid tumour
Skin and connective tissues: Necrotising fasciitis, pyomyositis, post-burn contractures, squamous cell carcinoma, abscesses, fractures
Congenital and paediatric: Cleft lip and palate, tracheo-oesophageal fistula, clubfoot, hydrocephalus, Hirschsprung disease, congenital pyloric stenosis, posterior urethral valves, stricture of the urethra, Wilm's tumour, necrotising enterocolitis, hypospadias, undescended testis
